Colossians | Chapter 4... in practice.

We didn't post questions for Chapter 4 last week- as Paul got into the nitty-gritty and began to discuss in Chapter 3 practically how we're to live in light of the rest of the book we focused mainly on the following in Chapter 4:

Continue steadfastly in prayer, being watchful in it with thanksgiving. At the same time, pray also for us, that God may open to us a door for the word, to declare the mystery of Christ, on account of which I am in prison— that I may make it clear, which is how I ought to speak. Let your speech always be gracious, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how you ought to answer each person. Walk in wisdom toward outsiders, making the best use of the time. Colossians 4:2-6

We discussed this in detail, focusing on what this looked like for us as believers "know how [we] ought to answer each person", to "walk in wisdom towards outsiders" and "make the best use of the time".

Questions we discussed were:

  1. When was the last time I prayed for an opportunity to present the Gospel to someone?

  2. When was the last time I presented the Gospel?

  3. Did I feel I was prepared to do so?

  4. Do I feel I communicated it clearly?

  5. When do I feel most comfortable presenting the Gospel (in what kind of scenario)?

  6. When do I feel most challenged to do so?

During small group time I wanted us to all have a crack at presenting the gospel to one another- simple but not always easy, I thought this could be a great time to encourage one another and also better equip us to "declare the mystery of God" to someone outside of our group soon!

Today is our last meeting for this session, we're going to get a chance to learn about a person who hopes to embody these verses with her life- she is on the journey to be a missionary in Eastern Europe!

Her road to this decision, the people group she is hoping to become a part of and the way the current team is operating is a beautiful example (and a challenging way for us to view our own "mission field")!

Next week we will not meet, it is a rest week. Look for an email in the next day or so with a survey, we're asking your help with the following things:

  • Next Study: Our OT selection is Judges, the NT selection is Philippians! Remember, no loser here- we'll end up studying both of these gems, you're only selecting which we do next!

  • Day change: Saturdays seemed difficult for most people, there will be options for other times/dates for the next session.

  • Feedback: We want to work on putting into practice things that have the potential to change our group for the better!

The Zoom link will be sent via email and posted to the app shortly (it is a recurring link so you can just click on an old one). See you all in a bit.
